Este verano, en lugar de pasar mis d\u00edas entre las playas de Ibiza, las fiestas populares y las largas noches estivales isle\u00f1as, me encontr\u00e9 en Nueva York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entre el 27 de julio y el 9 de agosto, di siete conciertos entre La ciudad de Nueva York y el Festival de Jazz de los Hamptons<\/strong>, invitado por Joel Chriss, director del Hamptons Jazz Festival y fundador y director del Ibiza Jazz Point Festival, que se celebra cada mes de octubre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joel ha sido representante de algunas de las mayores leyendas del jazz: Elvin Jones, Pharoah Sanders, McCoy Tyner, Ornette Coleman y muchos otros. A trav\u00e9s de Jazz Point, nos hicimos amigos, y esta amistad finalmente condujo a esta invitaci\u00f3n para venir a tocar jazz a Estados Unidos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Era la primera vez que tocaba y visitaba Am\u00e9rica, tocando con m\u00fasicos y bandas estadounidenses. Hay algo muy especial en ser un M\u00fasico de jazz ibicenco que llega a Nueva York para tocar jazz<\/strong>, en el lugar donde gran parte de esta m\u00fasica naci\u00f3, se desarroll\u00f3 y sigue viviendo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mis primeros conciertos en Nueva York y los Hamptons<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

El primer concierto fue el 29 de julio, con el Cuarteto Thomas Majcherski<\/strong> en el Festival de Jazz de los Hamptons en Bridgehampton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los d\u00edas siguientes estuve de vuelta en la ciudad de Nueva York, tocando con el Tr\u00edo de \u00d3rgano de Eric Person<\/strong> en el bar Albert\u2019s de Times Square. Del tranquilo entorno de los Hamptons al centro de Manhattan en menos de 24 horas, vaya cambio de escenario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luego, el 1 de agosto, regres\u00e9 a los Hamptons para tocar con el ganador del premio Grammy Cuarteto de Wayne Escoffery<\/strong> en Sag Harbor. Tocar junto a \u00e9l y la banda fue otra experiencia completamente diferente. Tuvimos a EJ Strickland en la bater\u00eda, a Ugonna Okegwo en el contrabajo y a Lawrence Fields en el piano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unos d\u00edas despu\u00e9s, el 5 de agosto, jugu\u00e9 con el Cuarteto de Patrick Cornelius<\/strong> en Bridgehampton, con la participaci\u00f3n de Rudy Royston en la bater\u00eda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y luego llegaron las \u00faltimas dos noches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tocando en el Smalls Jazz Club en Manhattan<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

7 y 8 de agosto, en Smalls Jazz Club<\/strong> en Manhattan, un club legendario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jugu\u00e9 con El Quinteto de Ricky Ford<\/strong>, junto a una banda incre\u00edble: Barry Altschul en la bater\u00eda, conocido por su trabajo con Chick Corea y Paul Bley, y Mark Soskin y Jerome Harris, ambos parte de la banda de Sonny Rollins durante 20 a\u00f1os. El propio Ricky Ford comenz\u00f3 su carrera tocando en el quinteto de Charles Mingus, la Big Band de Duke Ellington y Lionel Hampton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fue una experiencia loca y hermosa, el viaje de una vida, se sinti\u00f3 como una pel\u00edcula y no podr\u00eda haber sido mejor recibido por el p\u00fablico, mis anfitriones y los m\u00fasicos con los que tocaba. \u00a1Muchas gracias! \u00a1Nos vemos muy pronto!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through Jazz Point, we became friends, and this friendship eventually led to this invitation to come and play jazz in America. It was my first time playing and visiting America, playing with American musicians and bands. There is something quite special about being an Ibicenco jazz musician arriving in New York to play jazz, in the place where so much of this music was born, developed and continues to live. So, here we go! My first concerts in New York and the Hamptons The first concert was on July 29th, with the Thomas Majcherski Quartet at the Hamptons Jazz Festival in Bridgehampton. The following days I was back in New York City, playing with the Eric Person Organ Trio at Albert\u2019s Bar in Times Square. From the quiet surroundings of the Hamptons to the middle of Manhattan in less than 24 hours, quite a change of scenery. Then, on August 1st, I returned to the Hamptons to play with Grammy award winner Wayne Escoffery Quartet in Sag Harbor. Playing alongside him and the band was another completely different experience. We had EJ Strickland on drums, Ugonna Okegwo on double bass, and Lawrence Fields on piano. A few days later, on August 5th, I played with the Patrick Cornelius Quartet in Bridgehampton, featuring Rudy Royston on drums. And then came the final two nights. Playing Smalls Jazz Club in Manhattan August 7th and 8th, at Smalls Jazz Club in Manhattan, a legendary club. I played with Ricky Ford\u2019s Quintet, together with an incredible band: Barry Altschul on drums, known for his work with Chick Corea and Paul Bley, and Mark Soskin and Jerome Harris, both of whom were part of Sonny Rollins\u2019 band for 20 years. Ricky Ford himself started his career playing in Charles Mingus 5tet, Duke Ellington Big Band and Lionel Hampton. It was a crazy, beautiful experience, a life trip, felt like a movie and I couldn’t have been more welcomed by the audiences, my hosts, and the musicians I played with. Thank you so much! We had EJ Strickland on drums, Ugonna Okegwo on double bass, and Lawrence Fields on piano. A few days later, on August 5th, I played with the Patrick Cornelius Quartet in Bridgehampton, featuring Rudy Royston on drums. And then came the final two nights. Playing Smalls Jazz Club in Manhattan August 7th and 8th, at Smalls Jazz Club in Manhattan, a legendary club. I played with Ricky Ford\u2019s Quintet, together with an incredible band: Barry Altschul on drums, known for his work with Chick Corea and Paul Bley, and Mark Soskin and Jerome Harris, both of whom were part of Sonny Rollins\u2019 band for 20 years. Ricky Ford himself started his career playing in Charles Mingus 5tet, Duke Ellington Big Band and Lionel Hampton. It was a crazy, beautiful experience, a life trip, felt like a movie and I couldn’t have been more welcomed by the audiences, my hosts, and the musicians I played with. Thank you so much!
